Here's the story on the big doe. We bought this land in September of 2012 and until today I never shot a deer there. Last week I threw an arrow right over the back of a big doe. I really don't like to hunt there that much because we only have 7 acres. I've been putting corn and alfalfa out. Two days ago I put 50 pounds of corn out and a half of a square bale of alfalfa. I got out there today and all the corn was gone and most of the alfalfa. The deer like to move through our land when there is either a east or west wind, tonight was a WSW wind so with that and the turtle dick weather I had high hopes. As soon as I got back to my shed at 2:30 and settled in I felt a turd a churning, that didn't stop me lol. It got to be 4:30 and I really started looking out of the side window facing the east because I knew they would be coming from that way. At 5:05 I saw movement coming off the hill and spotted 3 doe. They made their way to me walking along the hillside and the lead doe got to about 60 yards from my shed and started snorting, I was watching her out of the open window and it looked like her eyes were locked to mine, plus my breath was coming out of the window and I thought for sure she was going to see it and bolt. I noticed a bigger doe hanging back about 20 yards from the lead doe, and her head was behind a tree. So when the lead doe put her head down I pulled the smokepole up, stuck the barrel out of the window, and put the crosshairs right for the pump station and fired, she was about 80 yards out. All I saw was 3 deer take off running, I did hear a loud crash but since I only saw 2 deer to begin with I thought I missed. I waited 10 minutes and got out, went to the spot where she was standing and I saw a few drops of blood so I txt the neighbor and told him I shot one and they ran up his way. Right after that I followed the tracks and there she laid, 20 yards from where I shot her piled up against a tree! She is the first deer I've taken off our land so that makes it real special TOO me! I'm going to get her hide tanned and hang it in my shed once I finish the work on the inside of it! I must also add that I checked her head as soon as I found her cause I thought she was a shed buck lol Another edit... I would not have had the success I have had this year without the help from all of my TOO brothers and a couple sisters! I'm making the strouds trip this coming season!
