I maintained weight very well last year until I decided to break my diet and go off the rails beginning Thanksgiving Day. I went from 212.5 to 221.5 as of this morning. Time to get back to the grind with an 8 week "challenge" here at the house. It'll help wipe the slate clean and set the tone for the rest of the year. And for sure this year, I won't be going off the rails like this again!!!

I’m turning 51 this year and I don’t like how it looks on me right now.... I screwed my back up somehow last year and it’s finally getting somewhat better!!! Had 2 great workouts and some minor cardio and everything feels better than expected so far.. Good luck to those looking at this time of year to try and get fit and feel better.

I'm on my third 3-month program of Athlean-X. With ditching all sugary junk food (I cheated one time with four cookies that Thelma made in Athens) and these programs, I've lost 15 lbs of fat, that I didn't think I had, without loosing mass. I'm the most athletic I've been in 25 years. Some of these workouts are, honestly, the toughest I've ever done in my life. Jeff Cavalier is a madman.

I was very nervous to step on the scale which I hadn't done since summer . I've eaten whatever I want for months now. I was on a brick job since August I haven't had a hard muscle burn for awhile. Stepped on the scale and I'm only up ten pounds. I'll get motivated again soon.

It's interesting - 94 pages! Started at 217# on Jan 6th, at 209# as of Fri. 14# to go.

I never worried about weight thru the years in the military - always PT'ng and wanting to be that, "Be the hardest person someone ever tried to kill" mentality. Ran pretty much 5 miles, 5 out 7 days a week for 33-34 years. Retired in 2016 diagnosed with osteoarthritis throughout my spine. stopped running = weight gain. When my weight did creep up when in the service I created a spreadsheet to watch the consumption (intake) and burn (output) - I've always found whether in Command or as a follower - What Gets Measured Gets Done. That kept me around 200-205.

With that, last fall I was 225# my biggest by far- 6'1, and went to the VA, they weighed me, marked off "Obese" I fuckin' damn near died right there.

Decided I gotta get with get it. Figured float through the holidays and revivie the old spreadsheet and start measuring what going in and what's going out ;) ... nothing nasty just the calories LoL.

Fellas the following is predicated on 3500 calories is a pound of human fat - that is science. It's really simple - Calories IN - Calories OUT = Weight.

  • Find out your calories burned at the site below, if you google you'll find a number of sites.
  • Track your calorie INTAKE, it does not matter one little bit WHAT went in your pie hole, it matters HOW much - your goal is to average a daily intake/burn to meet your weight loss goals
  • Track you calorie BURN - specific exercise or activity that is not factored into your specific Daily amount from the website below -This bit is important to your discipline as that amount you burn above the normal - is extra food you get to eat!

For the first bullet go here, https://nutritiondata.self.com/tools/calories-burned be honest with yourself when answering how active you are, that output is the amount of calories you expend just being a potato... (slang for a civilian) waking, living and sleeping. IF you want to track exercise that's really easy on all kinds of apps, I use MyFitnessPal, there are lots of those as well.

So. All that above is condensed into a simple spreadsheet, because, WHAT GETS MEASURED GETS DONE.

Here's my tracker from 6 Jan when I started.
Capture.JPG

The things you enter once. Your starting wight(217). Your daily Potato calorie burn(2800). Your daily Total calories to meet your weight loss goal mine calculated to (1630) - your app will tell you that once you tell it how much you want to loose / week. In my case it was 2#'s /week = 1630 for me.

One thing I did that I think helps is to have the 7 day running average of total calories, if can have that one or two day slip, but the average is really what I think is important, because mentally it gives you some space to be human and indulge but then on day or two before or after you can get it back on track, factual, as the numbers don't lie.

Then all you do is track you daily calorie Total (= Ingest -- Exercise) and put that in once per day, many times I'll go 3-4 days tracking on my app, then plug it into the spreadsheet. My goal is to get to 195, then maintain between 195 and 197 for life. Grandpa, Dad and my borhter all died of heart disease I may as well, but I'm not gonna invite the specter of death into my life by not taking care of something completely within my control. That fckr will have to work very hard to kill me indeed. :devilish:

Best of luck gentlemen.

If anyone would like the spreadsheet or more info, drop a note in the thread or PM me, I'll email a clean spreadsheet that has all the formulas baked into it.

Ever been drinking with a buddy and made a stupid bet? He said “no beer till you lose 15 lbs”. I laughed “I’ve taken bigger shits than that!” “Fine, 35 lbs” and the deal was made. Neither of us can have a beer until we drop 35 lbs.

How's this workin for ya?
