After reading all of the testimonials I think I'm ready to take the smoke plunge and see what it's all about. Unfortunately I've pretty well maxed out my hunting budget for the year. So my question is, until I can buy the smoker does anyone think it would work to use the wood chips in my charcoal grill to produce the required smoke? I was thinking of getting a good smoke goin with the lid on and then remove it to smoke up my gear so as to not contaminate everything with the leftover smell of delicious burgers and steaks lol. Thoughts?

I would think you could get that smoke on your gear ok and give you a little hint of what the smoker will do when you get it. The thing with the smoker is that it allows you to use the smoke in a controlled manner and apply the smoke more efficiently. Standing in front of smoke from a campfire or doing it the way your talking is fine and can get the job done to some degree however, there are parts of your clothes and gear that will be missed and not covered leaving spots that may have other scent on them. Like I said, it should work fine and give you a hint of what smoke can do. Should get enough to see the ol nose in the air, tail flick, and go back to doing whatever it was they was doing. It's actually pretty comical to see.

Thanks! I've watched all the videos of deer reacting down wind and it is quite comical! Thanks for the input, I'll check back with an update...

I can't wait for mine to get here. If it works half as good as I hear I will be thrilled. I also think it will make it much easier to take my daughter hunting g in the blind. It is so hard to get kids to understand scent control. I can't wait for my shipping confirmation

I was heavily smoked on Friday (on the ground) when I took my buck. He came in from downwind and although he was on a trot, I believe it was because he saw that four pt. out in the field.

Look what just arrived!! So how do you know when you have enough smoke on your clothes? Can you do it ahead of time or right when you are ready to go out?

You can do it ahead of time, just touch up yourself with it before heading out the next morning is all I do..... I have a tote I poked a hole in and put the tip of hue nozzle in it and squeeze the smoke into the tote with all my gear inside it.... Minus the bow of course and then do that separately....
It's as easy as that....

Never tried it like that, but I'd think it would work to some degree.

Update: so I made a sort of redneck smoker with tin foil on my grill and smoked the hell out of everything I'm taking out with me tomorrow. The smell seems to have taken pretty well and I'm storing everything in the shrek sized ziplocs overnight. Hopefully I'll have an IKS update tomorrow!

I had to work today & yesterday, so I just now finished smoking up my new bibs. I washed them the other day w/ non scent detergent so I'm pretty much set to go. Smoking up is not new to me, but it's kinda funny how you can get excited smoking up something new. I'll give 'em another puff in the am. lol.
