My Chanterelle supply had been in the fridge since Wednesday. There are probably 4-5lbs left and they are holding up really well. Still, they don't last forever. I made Escoffier's Cream of Chanterelle soup again yesterday to use some of them up. Nancy took the time to make a couple of seriously awesome fresh baguettes to eat with them. I didn't take any pics of dinner, but this soup is something special and one of my favorite ways to eat Chanterelles. Probably my second favorite way to eat them is for breakfast. Chanterelle, Garden Salsa pepper sauteed in a teaspoon of Ghee with a couple of beaten eggs. Left over baguette makes for some world class toast, too. :)

Hoping we get some good rains in the next few days and some more golden fruit comes out of the ground. I've not had my fill yet.

My app says lung oyster. Are there any oyster look a-likes? I have never eaten a wild oyster

Notice the aroma when you cut or tear some apart. They have a very distinct smell. Everyone you see from now on will have the same aroma. My fix is to lightly coat them with flour & fry in some butter & evo until crispy on the edges.

I took the time today to re-visit my only two spots that produced Chanterelles this year with the hope that the recent rains had spawned some new mushrooms. This will probably be my last time after Chanterelles this year, but it was another fruitful day in the mushroom woods. Lots of nice Chanterelles, and lots of small ones just coming up. So, they are not done yet, and in my spots there will probably be nice mushrooms for another couple of weeks, at least. I also happened upon a bonus flush of nice young Oysters.

Just an oddball of the woods. Like indian pipes. Don't see them for years then they are all over the place. With everything coming up I've been really checking my mossy spots looking for black trumpets. I've only picked them once & there was a hundred of them. Now them I'd like to eat again. There's another new one I'm researching called scaly hedgehogs. They are all over to. I'll post a pic from my cell phone.

I see these a lot in our little patch of woods. Took a snapshot of them moments ago as I was picking up some of the buckeyes. I do not know what they are and I usually leave this kind of stuff for my better half because she's far more into it than myself. I just encounter them, take a photo, show them to her and she can decide if she wants to go grab them or not. I try to stay out of our woods as much as possible over the past few years this time of the year and when I do make my way into them, I do try to get the most out of it.

We seem to have a super year with regards to all the other wildlife vegetation, including all the trees that produce either seedpods or nuts.
Everything that we lookout for within our woods and harvest each year has done exceptionally well this year. The wife completed her annual soap making the other day from all the natural ingratiates produced right here on the property. It's all the soap that I use for personal hygiene and I've been using it ever since we moved to this place, well over (8) eight years ago, and it been one of the best things for me from a health standpoint. I have sensitive skin and the wife's soap has been nothing but a blessing in so many ways. It's good stuff!
