Not sure what the wil go for this year J.
He just wants to catch some to have tanned.
I do know that fur prices this year are going to be pretty low overall.
Myself i dont really mind, i am just trying to keep the yote population down,heck last yr i turned all the fox loose except one that i had tanned.
Coon prices are so low this yr i will let most of them go also.
 
Caught a female yote and a small coon today.
Let the coon go but the yote not so lucky.
Had my buddy Dale along and it is the first one he has seen snared so let him shoot it, he is getting it tanned to start his own fur bundle like mine.
Pretty fun day and we put a couple mink sets in also.

Nothing but coons the last 2 days,let 4 go and all the boars were getting rubbed bad behind the neck.
Not seeing any yote sign which is good as i think i am finally thinning them out,supposed to get a litte snow next week so if their are any around i should see their tracks.

Do you mean you are snaring coon? Or are you trapping them with a coil spring?
 
We relocated some snares. Had them out all week and nothing. Had one that got knocked down twice during the week. Found what appears to be dens...they are oval in shape. Set up two snares on what I believe to be the main trails.

I think i have thinbed em out in my area.That last one was #114 since i have been snaring them the last several yrs.
I am glad to see fewer of them,sure has helped our faws survive all yr.

I have had snares out for as much as 20 days before connecting. Sometimes it takes awhile.
 
Well i did some scouting and driving around the 2 farms today and did not see any coyote tracks which is great,i think i am finally getting them under control after catching 114 since i started a few yrs ago.
I shut them down for now at the big farm and will open them back up if some show up,i have 6 set on the family farm but also saw no tracks there.
I plan on setting more on the family farm in case more show up and put some mink sets in thurs or fri when it warms up that way i can just concentrate on one farm for now.
Before i started snaring yotes i would see more yote tracks than deer but now i am seeing very few to no yote tracks and lots of deer tracks and seeing most of the fawns on the farm survive the whole yr.
Guess time will tell once i get more set on the farm.
If it stays like this i will just go till the middle of february.
I will say if you do it you wont help your hunting spots overnight,it will take several yrs of doing this for 2 or 3 months a year but it is well worth it.
Will check back when i have something to report.
