Usually a lot windier on one side of the woods up that way. That was always my tactic anyways. Hunt the downwind side.
I enjoy hunting like this for comfort. The winds although constant and straight here will swirl over top the trees and suck back in the lots along edges. I think I got busted three times this year with this happening. No hills to contest with but wood lot winds can be screwy as hell.

Yup, when it’s blowing this hard you can watch it carry leaves as it swirls up and all around creating drafts.

Seen 10 Monday in Tuscarwaras County, could of shot 6 much less shooting than years past (less and less every year). Tuesday seen 2 running in Tuscarwaras the woods were absolutely dead. Hunted today in Seneca County this afternoon and was skunked, heard one shot in my 2 hour sit a long way off.

This is quite possibly my final hunt of the season. We have to be out of our current home by the end of the month and I probably won’t have any days off from work. Any free time will be packing and moving. I won’t hunt in January unless there is a true target buck. Same spot as the first 3 days mostly because of the wind. What’s the saying about insanity?

In stand 40 min before legal light. Dude and kid come walking in from west. (West winds today.) Kid goes into woods. Dude walks within 30-40 yds. Throws up binoculars. Starts walking again. I take gun off rest and hang on bow hanger so as to not be aimed near him. He turns around. Walks back west 50 yds. Stops comes back towards me. Plops on ground at 60-70yds away. Right in front of me. Ugh. At 745-800am another dude comes walking north fencerow/property line. Maybe they are pushing? Nope. He plops down on edge of field maybe 150-200yds away. They are limited to shooting right in front of themselves. I can shoot down fenceline I'm in for about a 30 yd area minus directly towards guy in front of me. Never hunted here. Have permission. Thinking of pulling my stand and dragging it to truck across field. 21' ladder stand.

Amazingly enough, I had 2 yearlings in bow range scenting this guy on ground in front of me. He moved. They bolted. Freaking comical.

The shitty thing is you know they all saw you in a tree wearing orange.

Well I had to leave soon after my last post for the tree farm to help get a deer. By far the worst recovery I've been involved in every way possible. Deer was all the way down at the bottom of a steep clear cut that was cut about 5 years ago or so so it was dang thick. Got the ATV down there and got him on the back no problem. Start going up the hill and ATV starts smoking good. Drop the deer. Get it on level ground, let it run and fan cool it off. Check coolant reservoir, way below minimum. Shit. Were a mile from a vehicle that might have water in it. I find a gum container in the ATV and fill it with water back at the bottom of the cut where we can find some clear water. Two trips later reservoir is full. I let it cool off and the water warm up for about a half hour before we go again after pulling the deer up to the ATV. Get it on the front. Start her up and go. Feels much better. Other than occasionally the front tires seem to not want to turn and it's in 4wd. Start going up hill, still no problem other than front tires then all the sudden she shuts off. Not smoking or anything but dead. Fan keeps running. I let it run till it says the batteries about dead then fire it up and let her cool before going. Give it gas make it about 20 yards further, dead again. Wait, start, dead in 10. So I kick his deer off and limp it back to my truck and load it up. She runs fine the whole 3/4 mile back. Before I headed back I ask him wth he wants to do cause this drag is gonna kill me and I'm 15 years younger than him and his buddy. He said screw it, tell him to drive my truck out here. You guide him. Uhhhhh are you sure about that, you do recall we rolled a skid steer over the hill 20 feet down the start of the good "trail" theres not been anything but dozers and stuff out here in maybe ever. Sooooo we did it. It was hairy as hell cause it was wet and it's all just clay around here. She ain't gonna look pretty in the morning. It sounded like we put some branches through some doors but there were no holes. Couple lessons here, main one is dont buy a lease vehicle. After about 150 yard uphill drag we got er done and were able to get the truck back out. Buck is pretty nice, has to be 24 inches wide and beams just as long. Not much mass and I'm surprised he even has beams at all left since he was obviously fighting, all scared up and broken brow. Beams had an insane amount of flex to them. Deer is very similar to the one I killed this year.

Lol, I was going to wait till lunch to text you back. I was laughing pretty good when I read your text. Always an adventure😂. I hope the quad just needs a good radiator cleaning.

Dandy buck and congrats to your buddy. Definitely need a plan for that in the future as I'm sure he won't be the last LOL. In the past when we have had them end up at a bottom we have used a long rope and pull them up a little at a time with the 4 wheeler up top and level. 150 yards would be tough though. Hope the 4 wheeler is OK.
