So here's my story on filling my anterless tag. I arrived at my womans sisters place a little late, around 3pm. They own a small pasture field and 7 acres of woods behind it. The neighboring property TOO the left is also wooded and it's thick as hell. Her sisters woods are about 100 yards wide by 200 yards long and there is a huge bean field at the end on a farm that has minimal if any bow hunting pressure. The deer will either bed down in the oats on the neighbors to the right or in the thick stuff on the left and funnel into my area on the way to the beans. Upon entering the woods friday afternoon I spotted movement 100 yards ahead so I looked through my rangefinder and there was one doe bedded and another milling around. I dropped my climber off my back and crawled up to a briar patch and cussed at myself for being late. I tried doe bleating a couple times to see if I could get them to come to me and it didn't work. I then crawled back to my climber and slowly stood up, glassed them again and noticed that they were slowly making their way towards the beans. I waited a few minutes and then I headed up that way ever so quietly. I found a tree right off of a well used trail and strapped my climber up. Once I got to about 15ft I noticed that I didn't strap the platform up at an angle to account for the tree getting smaller as I climb up, Just then one of my feet came out and I had the whole bottom dangling by one foot. That was a bitch to fix, then I had to climb back down and reattach the bottom platform. When all was said and done it was 4pm before I finally sat down in the tree. Not long after that I noticed 3 doe on the edge of the bean field browsing, I was watching them for about 20 mins when I heard something coming from behind me to the right. I turned and it's a small buck walking with his nose to the ground, I tried playing with him and I grunted twice but he didn't want any part of it. He disappeared to the right over a little hill. Next thing I know there are two doe hauling major ass right towards me, I waited until they got almost in front of me and I let out a loud "meeaahhh" and one stopped, I did it again and the other stopped. I shot one and unfortunately I spined her but I quickly put another in her cause I couldn't stand there and watch/listen to her suffer. She made the loudest bawl I've ever heard. Then I had the other doe and the buck hanging around for at least 10 mins trying to figure out why all of a sudden "jane" was taking a dirt nap. They eventually left and I scurried down, pulled my arrows out of her and got her out quickly so I didn't bugger up the area. It happened so fast and I'm glad I could get another arrow in her quickly. I still had to watch her breathe for about a minute and that's the first time I've ever witnessed the actual death of the deer cause all the other ones just ran off and expired. Once I got out of the woods I thanked her for her life and the meat she will provide and proceeded to field dress her, nothing like warm guts when your hands are freezing!
