TOO Weight Loss - Biggest Loser Edition

Chuck, I know your family loves you. Did or has your doctor's "bet" really hit home with them? Do they understand the importance of supporting you and how their actions impact you?

No, I don't think they really grasped what he said and what it meant as I had to. My wife was shocked when I told her. She has also been supportive as I attempt to bring more clean foods into the house for all of us. It is early on in our transformation so I'm not saying they are against it completely. It will have to be a full change of heart and mind in the way we eat. It isn't easy though when my daughter often says "you're the one on the diet". Sure it is likely jokingly said but it doesn't make things any easier. My guess is they are thinking dad's on a new kick that won't last long as usual, but it has to this time. As for my wife she walked once on the treadmill the week after my Dr. visit and hasn't done it since. She has always been a person to eat what she wants whenever she wants so this definitely won't be easy for her. Just don't know how to get her on board 100%. That would make my whole transformation easier but as my Dr. said too, you have to do it for yourself first, hopefully they will want to help as time goes on.

After a few beers and a healthy pile of wings...just stepped on and was 198. My inlaws are in town and love to cook! This last week has been hard on my diet. Still making progress though.

I finally benched 350 for two this morning. It was pretty easy and I probably could have gotten another one but my tendinitis was killing me so I stopped. Then I threw on the slingshot which helps take about 10 to 15% of the load and did 405 for two sets of three. It was a good morning.

Well done! Sounds like you're making some great progress. What's this slingshot device and what's it used for?

I'm getting there. I really want a 405 bench by my next competition. A slingshot is an elastic band with arm cuffs. While you bench the elastic band stretches across your chest and gives you a boost off the bottom. It is also a good trainer for teaching your body to tuck the elbows on your way down. I like to use it after my normal sets to get more volume in and sometimes overload training like today.

Kind of ass-backwards for this thread I guess, but I just weighed myself for the first time in months... Up to 206 lbs. I haven't been trying hard to put on mass but certainly not trying to lose weight. For the past couple months I've been eating an avocado almost every day with my lunch. I really enjoy them and knowing they're a "super food" is a real plus. For the past two weeks I've also been drinking bulletproof coffee every morning. If you're not familiar, it's black coffee, mixed with about a Tbsp of unsalted grass-fed butter and a Tbsp of MCT oil. Tell you what... If you're a coffee drinker, you need to try this. The increased energy I have now throughout the day is mind blowing.

Tonight was chest/triceps day and I bumped up to 210 on bench. 3 solid sets for a total of 19 reps. I could've done 215 no problem too. Not sure why but it was just one of those days where I felt really strong. It's pretty cool, considering a year ago my one rep max was only 205!

I squatted 500 for two this morning for a PR. Second one felt heavy but I got out of position. Felt good getting that after a crappy deadlift session on Tuesday.

Pretty sure 500 would snap my legs at the knees. Lol. That's impressive man. Glad to hear you went right for 500 instead of fucking around with 495. I always laugh when guys leave off the 2.5's and hit an odd number!

I will second the bulletproof coffee! But I will warn you: DO NOT get too far from a shitter after drinking this, especially your first few times!

I have been back on a semi-diligent keto routine for a few weeks, but have really tightened up this week. I have some issues I have been dealing with and a lot of the new science out there indicates gut health is key to curing those types of issues. I started on a heavy regimen of supplements this week to assist with my gut health and have upped my intake of kraut and kimchi. I need to "cleanse" as well, so I added milk thistle and niacin back to my supplement routine for the next 30-45 days.

As for weight, I weighed in a 198.5 this morning. I expect to thin down to 190ish in the next 2-3 weeks and will probably stay there for the rest of the summer. I'm running a 5K on M,W,F and doing kettlebell/body weight work on Tu,Th. With as active as my weekends are, there is really no time off, so I should stay lean without too much difficulty.
