Phil is right on about fitness level not being a number. I carry weight better than most and feel quite comfortable at 210-220 pounds. At 269 pounds I looked like I weighed about 235 to most people.

I'm the same way. Most people are shocked to know I weigh 230. Especially if you see me next to someone like Swantucky who is taller than me and actually weighs less, but has a better beer gut. My chest is like a keg and nothing is sagging yet, but the weight is still there. Plus, I have huge legs. I have the thighs of an offensive linemen and that's a lot of weight!

BL wii wouldn't let me do the normal workout tonight - I guess they want you to take a break or something. Fuckers! So I did a brief workout instead. Ate some tuna with spicy mustard as a post workout snack. It's so damn good. It's just tuna and about a T of spicy mustard. Try it - low calorie and high in protein.

Put this on FB but I eat that with a bit of garlic, very little sweet pickle (or relish), and jalapenos.

The dog and I did a run in the snow tonight. 2 miles.

My wife bought me a kettlebell. I'm going to start working my chest and shoulders, two things I really need to work on.

Todays work out.

15 minutes on the eliptical
Chest, abs, legs and bicep circuits.

Tomorrow is a recovery day. Sunday will most likely be a cardio only day.

I know recovery days are important when lifting, but are they important when just doing cardio?

Yes they are. The reason being is your using muscles to exert the energy that causes your heart rate to increase. You need to give them time to heal up otherwise you'll be apt for injury.

Thanks! I'm going to take Sunday's off.

I am not sure about weights, but i know there was a mixup of our workouts when i ran track and cross country. Seems like if we had a heavy day of sprints (well, 400m runs back to back to back with a walking lap in between for us distance runners), we would do just a long run the next day (say 3-4mile loop). Same thing the day after a race. We would do our warmup and then hit the road for a few miles of easy pace. Something about the buildup of acid (lactic acid maybe? can't remember) in your muscles. The long run would break down the buildup of acid in your muscles after a hard race or heavy practice. I can't remember the details as it was back in the early 90's. Maybe this thought process has changed since then. I would think there are similarities in all physical activity though. Maybe one day low reps/heavy weight, the next day less weight/more reps? I am sure someone could chime in with better knowledge then me.

Did Wii BL and Jillian Michael's 30 day shred with my wife this morning. My arms are rubber now and my abs are shot. Damn, what a hard but great feeling workout! Will weigh in tomorrow for my official weigh in, but rumor is I may be down 12 lbs already.

Here's my motivation, btw.

Were set to sail at the end of February and I need to lose as much weight as possible. Truth be told I should have started months ago working out, but I did start late summer trying to eat better. If I had started working out then I'd know I would be better off now.

Hit the treadmill again tonight. Ran 3.1 miles in just over 26 minutes, which is pretty slow. It sucks when you let yourself get out of shape.

At least you can run 5k...that's pretty good. I think the best I was ever able to do is 5k on a 'mill in 20-21 minutes. That was after working at it for 5-6 months though. It was kinda cool being the fattest guy in the gym but still being able to outrun the majority of the people in there. LOL. I think I was about 280lbs then.

I did the BL Last Chance workout DVD tonight. It was fun and hard. The 25 minutes flew by. I tried to really push myself tonight but I'm just not in the right shape to maintain it for long. I'll get there though.

My wife is showing interest in losing weight (thank you Baby Jesus....I mean..um...I didn't wanna have that conversation).

John,

On the BL for Wii do you need the fit board? Or anything else for that matter?

You can use the fit board if you prefer. I've done both and prefer not to use the fit board. It doesn't add anything to the routine, and actually becomes a P-in-the-A because you have to get off it frequently and kick it out of the way in order to do different exercises.

Keep up the good work JJ!

I was thinking about this the other day and I am itching to get back to the gym next week...

Thanks!

Thought I might try the gym tonight so I swung by on my way home, however, every damn machine was taken. I figure in a few weeks the gym should clear out once everyone forgets about their resolution. Anyhow, I came home, ate dinner and then did the BL wii and BL last chance workout. My upper body is pretty much rubbah!

P.s...I'd really like a dip now. There's nothing like a fresh dip after a workout to help you relax, but of course I'm refraining.
