Weight taken off slowly and steadily has a
lot better chance of remaining off. Good for you, keep on keepin on!

X2 on that as well as your skin has more time to retract as your weight comes off. Seriously get some stretch mark cream or skin forming lotion and apply at night before bed. Can't stress that enough. If you drop 100+ lbs your skin needs all the help it can get returning back to where it used to be......take my word so you want be looking at skin removal surgery like I am.

Well I'll be a SOB. :) Last Saturday I enjoyed an evening with friends. Cuban food and then the Big Bang piano bar. I got on the scale Monday and was up 5 lbs. No big deal; just water retention right? I'm averaging more than 15,000 steps per day this week, over 110 minutes of activity, I've been to the gym everyday, and I've eaten right. The result as of this morning is: 0.2lbs down. Lesson learned, no more fun. :)

Don't let it get you down brother. Pick up the pieces and run with them. My problem is sodium. I can drop consistently when I am cutting weight but one meal in a Mexican restaurant and I can gain 5 lbs or so and hold on to it for several days. You got it tho keep at it. I'm cutting again have been for 2 weeks. Got to get right before summer. Sounds to me like a carb and sodium overload which most definently can result in water retention. Best solution.....fight fire with fire. If your body is holding on to that water it's telling you it needs it. Give it what it needs. Good luck!!

Thanks! Good points. I eat low carb - my carbs are from vegetables. I think you're right; I definitely overdid it on the carbs between the Cuban food and beer.

Nice work John!

Booze has killed me this month. I'm holding at 220 right now. With a big weekend of dinners and a festive weekend planned next weekend, it will only get worse. However I am reading a book my Mark Sisson right now called Primal Blueprint. It details how we used to eat versus how we eat now and goes in to detail about the benefits of a ketogenic diet. I've also listened to 3 podcasts in the last week with experts on this "primal diet", as well as some success stories. I've seen what a low-carb diet does for me and I think this is going to be the ticket going forward. The major obstacle is discipline. If I can get back to work and get a routine going again, it will be achievable. But as long as I'm home and stuck in this rut, nothing is going to work. I comfort myself with food and when I'm bored, I eat. Not good for a guy who's laid off...

Well...I ate way more than normal this weekend and had my fair share of beer...climbed up on the scale this morning to see how I was doing, to my surprise I was at 173.9 lbs! A pound under what my goal was. I was still over 180 last time checked a couple of weeks ago. From 205 lbs 5 months ago...down 31 lbs.

I'm still, wait for it....210. I've seen 217, and 203 over the last 3-4 months.

I'm ready for spring to get here so I can get outside moving again. Then more camping and drinking takes place and I'll still be stuck at 210 still, who am I kidding. I really need to get my heart in the game if I want to change it. Guess it's just not there yet. Last round of blood work came back good at the doc, even cholesterol and liver count. Nice work Giles. I hopped on the scale this morning at 253 which was surprising considering I've eaten garbage for the past month. My competition weight will be 242 so as long as I stay close I am fine. And I hit a deadlift PR of 530 so I am pretty happy where I am.

I've spent the last 3 weeks researching the "primal" diet, otherwise known as a ketogenic diet. I've had good luck with a low-carb paleo diet, but this is more stringent on the carb intake and allows me one of my favorite food groups: dairy. I'm going to give this a serious go for 8 weeks. Works nicely because my alumni basketball tournament will be the weekend I'm finishing up.

I was 222 this morning. Hilariously enough, I'm trying to get to 225 before I start. It's a nice number to start with! lmao

You guys keep me accountable on this venture cause it's going to be tough! I've been researching what is called the "Primal Diet" for a few weeks now and having had luck in the past on a low-carb diet, I figured this was a good route for me to go. I like it better than the Paleo diet I did for a while because I can eat dairy, which I love. The idea with the primal diet is to go ketogenic by eating a high fat, moderate protein, low-carb (less than 50 net daily) and in the process, covert your body from one that burns carbs for energy, to one that burns fat. Once you've been on this diet for 60 days, you can start adding carbs back in until you find a middle ground that works for your body. The guy who pushes this is grain/sugar/legume free. I'm good with no added sugars as I've been doing that fairly consistently for over a year. I don't see me ever being 100% grain free, or legume free. I'll add potatoes, some whole grains and few other things back in moderation. I know how to maintain my weight, but I've had a hell of a time getting under 215. I'm hoping this is what I need to get back to a healthy weight AND maintain it. Getting back to work, getting a new routine and getting out of this depression will also help!
