Did that project buck ever offer a shot? All the pics I didn't see a shot offered. I know some people put a branch or some kind of blocker up so the deer have to offer a shot to get to the food. Great angles for that cam tho! 😍

Dave,

There are a lot things that I do way ahead of time to setup my hunting areas. I'll go through everything with the both of you two when you guys show up.

Every year, I work our woods, IE; deer runs/paths, feed areas, creeks, fields, etc., etc. Specifically, the 'Western Stand' funnels the deer right in front of that tree. The both of you will get to see exactly what I am talking about regarding how I go about things around my place each and every year, all of my deer chores.

Much information to go over with you two before we hit the woods around here. Right now, things are still super thick and the AG fields are still standing, so we have time.

I did not hunt this morning because of the full moon last night. I expect more of the deer to start roaming about midday and/or this evening later today. I may get out for an evening hunt, we'll see.

So, kindly plan on spending at least a couple of hours with me before the hunts begin at our place. I care to provide you with all the intel that should make things hopefully all the more successful of encountering deer when hunting around our place.

I have previous commitments early this week. Thursday and Friday is wide open at the moment, or anytime beyond that works for me.

Should be some fun and you'll get to learn quite a bit about these deer around here, way beyond what I have shared before 😃

@giles - Hope you recall that there's well over 1,000 acres of private property that you'll have access too to get the job done. That's a whole lot of hiding places out there for those deerz right now. Hope you two are in shape 🤨 and have a good pair of waterproof hiking boots cause you'll need them 😊

7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023: 'NO HUNT TODAY'

Yeah, I had too many things to take care of round the barn & workshop today, plus it's just plan hot out, but beautiful none the less.

Last deer to show up before quittin time at the feed site. Today was very slow with regards to deer movement around here.

'Congrats to you! Enjoy that wonderful fresh venison!!'

IDK when I'll get out again although I did watch the weather forecast on TV this evening and it appears that a good cold front is on the way, so, there's that... I'll definitely be huntin somewhere when that comes around for sure.

Until then, congrats again to all the successful hunters this weekend!

Have a wonderful Sunday evening 'TOO'ville!

3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2023: 'Good to go!'

1000018361.jpg

I'm 'good to go' from a health wise standpoint, which means I'll be back to 🦌hunting real soon!

I passed with flying colors all of the health physicals, including all the cancer screenings. I just finished the colonostipy process, which was my final check. Something I was supposed to have done every two years and got totally out of compliance since the pandemic.
Now I'm all current. In fact, I'm back to 5 year checkups now versus every two.

'NO CANCER', polups, tumers or blemishes to be found today, which is much better than the last.

So, we're on our way to get something to eat, then back 🏡

Tomorrow, I want to be in a tree 🌳 somewhere to celebrate 🍾 this latest health update of mine.

Looks like you good folks might have to put up with me for a good long time now :giggle:

Same buck in the front yard moments ago that I encountered last while bow hunting last Saturday evening. He really needs a name because he's been visiting everyday damn near for the last couple of years. He has quite the personality.

Denny.... Good to hear you got a clean bill of health.....
I appreciate it, Rich, thank you!

I admit, I was totally under the influence of drugs at the time of that post 😆

Anyhow, yeah, I'm a bit wore out, so I'm headed straight to bed so I can get up early. I'll catch up tomorrow sometime. Y'all have a wonderful evening!

Good night!

Hunted this morning and saw 'DIAMOND' first thing, heard a few others but did not see more. Later, after lunch, I did some deer chores, such as the monthly maintenace at the main feed site. I gave the feed trough a good scrub-down cleaning and replenished with 200# of whole corn.

I did not hunt this evening because it was way to warm for the liking however, 'DIAMOND' showed back up right at 'quttin time'.

I intend on hunting while the weather is still decent here at home, so I will be in a tree in the morning tomorrow.

Until then, have a great evening 'TOO'ville!

I almost forgot about taking out the trash to the street tonight. Doubt I'll make a morning hunt since I'm up late still, but headed to bed right after this. I thought I'd share some of things that took place while getting rid of some more loose yard debris.

12:30 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023: 'LAST TWO HUNTS'

20231005_164721.jpg

I hunted yesterday evening at the 'Western Stand' for the first time this season. I wanted to hunt the beanfield however the field was still being worked when it was time to head out, so I hunted the stand closets to that field and saw 8 -10 deer as I finished up, just inside that field within a 100 yards of my tree and stayed there to feed on the loose beans on the ground. It was encouraging to see that many deer yesterday.

This morning, I hunted at the main feed site out of the Lonewolf stand. I heard a few and saw just the one deer, which is the same one I encountered on openin day, the young 2 1/2 year old resident buck.
I also encountered a Screech Owl as well. It flew in early and stayed for a minute or two. Pretty cool encounter and it never made a peep either.

The first encounter was the Screech Owl 🦉 @5yrds to my left in the next 🌳. It stayed for about a minute, then flew away. It made not a peep during the entire stay.

I heard a few 🦌 and saw just the one resident buck during the couple hour hunt @🏡 this morning.

No arrow took flight. On to the next hunt.

I hope you enjoy!

Thank you for reading & watching!

10:25 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023: 'Evening Hunt'

20231006_184858.jpg

I hunted at the main feed site once again this evening for the last two hours. I watched a bunch of squirrels, cottontails and birds for the most part. I did not see a deer at all, however, at 7:10 p.m., I heard antlers within a 100 yards of me. That went on and off for about 10 -15 minutes, then it got all quiet and everything was super still. I was on high alert until the end at that point.

The sound came from the same area where I found three fresh deer beds the other morning. I kinda knew what deer they might of have been when I first heard them, and sure enough, the both of them showed back up today, shortly after quittin time.

Not sure where exactly I'll be hunting tomorrow afternoon/evening. I'd like to make my way up the big hill where all the acorns are if the weather is somewhat decent. We'll see how things go first tomorrow morning before I make that call.

I enjoyed the hunt and learned some good intel this evening.

Goodnight 'TOO'ville!

I'll have to get me another one because typing with gloves on ain't cutting it 😂

Beautiful weather though 😍

12:15 a.m., Sunday, October 8, 2023: 'Today's Archery Hunts'

20231007_184436.jpg

Video description:

I bow hunted the first two and the last two hours of today. This morning I did not see any deer, but I heard them. This evening I saw four deer at the main feed site. I put together this video that includes most of the photography taken today, plus some trail camera captures of deer that showed up shortly after quitting time. I hope you enjoy seeing some of the autumn colors. Today was breezy and cool, causing many of the leaves to come off the trees. I was expecting more deer daylight activity, but nearly all of that occurred both before and after today's sun daylight hours. No arrow took flight during either hunts today. On to the next one for me. Again, I'm focused on mature bucks right now, no antlerless. Thanks for reading and watching!
____________________________________

The person I heard in the woods that sneezed and coughed did it again at 7:25 p.m. when I was covered in deer. He actually spooked the deer that were around me. I'm fairly certain I know who he is and I will confirm that over the next couple of days. Trust me, I will find out and it will get taken care of.

I was expecting more daylight deer activity today. I had none on TCs which rarely happens. I knew something was up when I wasn't seeing any deer today on trail cameras.

Remember, I deal with these type of situations every year. It's part of the game unfortunately.

Good night 'TOO'ville!
