Just loaded her up for the night. She is finishing her 8th season heating our home. Not too bad for $600 Craigslist find.[emoji23]

Not bad at all!!

You guys are making me jealous. All my stuff is stacked where I cannot get to it with the sloppy ground.

I have had one of these for the past two seasons. It completes my 3 saw plan perfectly. And damn powerful to boot. Also has a great warranty. It’s 0.3lbs heavier and 3cc bigger than the juggernaut stihl ms200t. Also the price is nice. Dad has been using the hell out of it cutting beams and other things on his cabin.

are you running a 14" or 16" bar? the one I handled yesterday had a 14" bar on it, and it seemed adequately balanced with the shorter bar. I did like it better than the Stihl. when I buy, it's gonna be the Echo.

Glad you liked it. I’m 95% sure it’s a 14 inch bar. It’s down at Dads so I can’t measure right now. I’m as big a stihl fan boy as anybody but I just really like that little saw. And as you mentioned the reviews from people that use it every day to put food on their table speaks for itself.

Finished cutting up the locust today. Also got a start on the cherry (sorry Dave, the woodpeckers will have to make use of the other 100000000 trees on the farm). The tops of it are all hung up, so next time I’ll take the tractor and pull them down with a chain and finish them up. Also made a back-to-back seat out of a crotch from it. The plan is to take it over the the ridge Shea and I like to hunt squirrels on for use next fall.

I ran my MS290 a little this afternoon. Cut down a few dead ash trees and hauled and stacked the good stuff and piled up the limbs for bonfire at a later date.
The pile against the boiler is reserve for hunting trips this fall that my wife and FIL can handle while I’m gone.
I have an hours worth of running my neighbors splitter on some big stuff on the backside but gonna start adding to my stack in prep for next fall and winter. Prolly got 3.5-4 cord jump on her.👍🏻

Man those boilers can take some big chunks!! Good to know you got a big jump on next year. I also keep a “wife only” stack in case I get stuck at work.

Iowa_Buckeye I can’t speak for Ric but with my setup and a 1800sq ft brick ranch I plan for 6 full trailer loads which equals a cord each. The trailer is a 16’ car hauler. I have never ran out with that figure. I probably burnt 5 cords this year.

How many cords are required to heat during a typical year? I assume it varies with your set-up.
The Taylor I have can heat up to 5000 sq ft. and cost us $7500 including installation back in April of 2005 when we finished building our new home and moved in. I’ve ran it every fall/winter but that one year 5-6 years ago when it was in seasonally warm at winter. It’s paid itself off 2-3 times over these last 19 years I’d imagine with the cost of propane(my backup fuel) over that span.
Larry, it all depends how long I run it of course and how cold a winter we have also of course. Based on SW Ohio weather and how my girls like our house to be I’d say I burn about 6.5-7 cord a year. I will also say that I’m glad the boiler has a 30x32” door and the hopper is 36” deep cuz I can load it up with some big ole chunks which means it burns a lot longer than split wood. I load it up in the morning before going to work and again before going to bed, about once every 12 hours keeping water temp in the 165-185 degree range.

@finelyshedded do you use yours exclusively? Or does it supplement natural gas or propane? Our natural gas is not an option. We had it shut off so long they came and took the meter. We heat our house, shop, and hot water with ours. I use more than 5-7 cords. I'm closer to 10. Plus or minus depending upon the winter. We start around October and run until close to May. I keep it stoked up even if we have the windows and doors open this time of the year. Come nighttime we will need it. House stays at 70 and shop at least 50. Higher if we are working out there. We have about 100' to the house and 100' to the shop. I'm sure we lose a little bit on our runs but we bought the really good stuff. I think they say it loses 1 degree for every 75'.

I can use both Phil. I have a duel phase thermostat control mounted in our living room. The boiler is set as our main source of heat and propane as our emergency heat. Sometimes in late September and early May before start up and shutdown when temps are more mild I’ll just burn a little propane at night and open windows during the day. There’s been a few really cold winters I bet I’ve burned close to 9-10 cord but for the average I’d say 7 cord is about what I burn in SW Ohio.

I know an area of woods that needs cleared out to make room for a barn. I’ve also got a few in the yard that need taken out. If any of you are interested in the wood, get a hold of me. This includes hard maple, hickory, black locust, Osage, black walnut and sycamore. All very accessible by vehicle and no need to take the tops, I’ll just burn them.

I also wouldn’t be opposed to select cutting the woods. I have 125 new trees coming shortly and need to find places for them😂.
