Just Ordered One On Amazon, ( Bee Hive Smoker) this Forum has Sold me. Im real skeptical about using it early season though , I may wait till it turns cold before I use it because the wood stoves don't get fired up till bout the end of October. Anxious to see if it works.

Don't wait. I was smoked up on opening day 2010, had my closest encounter with a deer. On the ground, in a brush blind, he walked right by me at 2-3 feet away. I could have reached over and touched him.

It's not really about the presence of wood stoves. More along the lines of that smell has never tried to kill them. So the deer do not associate it with anything predatory. If it's not predatory it's not a threat. But the smoke does way more than act as a cover scent. It also prevents the growth of odor causing bacteria.

I've read a couple reviews from other sites and there has been a few people say that deer started blowing at them as soon as they got down wind of them... that being said the same day they had different deer downwind without a spooking. Cant find one bad comment about the product on this forum. Has anybody had any bad experience's with it at all ?

I've been using it for 3 years and to my knowledge I haven't had one deer scent me. I'm going to say if a deer blows out on you down wind and your are smoked up correctly that deer seen their movement not their scent. I had my 8 pt. buck in 2013 20 yds. down wind of me on a trail and he stopped and threw his head up 2 times to smell and walked off the trail straight at me and I shot him at 12 yds.
It's funny as hell to watch down wind of you throw their head up and lip curl to try and figure the smell out then walk straight to you or go about their business. Now I would say must of us use EverCalm Deer Herd scent also.

Lot of haters on other forums. Not just of the smoker, but of guys who reside here. Half the guys posting in this thread picked up the smoker after joining here and yet, no bad experiences. I only know one guy who doesn't like it and that's cause his wife doesn't like the smell. lmao

My wife doesn't like the smell, gives her a headache. Don't care, I still use it. Love it. I had small doe about 12 feet from me last year. She knew the blind was there, had no Idea I was even in it.

Lmao..

Personally I've had only one negative reaction while "using it" not because of it, IMO. I was setup in a forked tree downhill of an oak flat littered with acorns on the ground. The flat laid anywhere from 15-50 yards to my NNW with a half dozen shooting windows or lanes in that direction. The wind was light and mostly steady and around 10 mph that morning.

On my way in under darkness I jumped what sounded like several deer from this oak flat which they do like to bed around, mostly along the lip of the slope facing my tree. I sneak into this set from a creek bed to the south just 30 yards away. The deer didn't run too far as I'm just 50 yards from a standing cornfield. I was very quiet climbing up into my stand but I knew these same deer might be back to investigate cuz in my past experiences, they always do, especially mature nanny does! Sure enough just like clock work, 20-30 minutes after first light she and her two half grown little ones were back and she was on high alert. She acted as though she was "looking" for me. The little ones couldn't have cared less and were somewhat playful and more in the mood to snack on acorns and browse but big momma, she was looking for me! Once she noticed my figure sillouetted in the skyline I was put through one of the roughest 30 minute stare downs I've ever been through! Head bobbing, snorting, stomping and repeat......over and over again! She stretched her nose as high into the air as she could licking her nostrils repeatedly with her eyes trained on me at the same time. A couple times she burst outta there doing that 3 snort burst most deer do when fleeing danger only to stop 10 yards away with ears straight back and looking away, then snap her head around hoping to catch me moving! It was quite the show of playing "flinch" by I was growing painfully tired of it and losing my patience near the end. Finally after all of her shenanigans that lasted nearly 45 minutes she just gave up and walked away. I could have shot her several times throughout this entire episode when her head was behind some massive trees but I don't shoot does on this property anyway.

I shared this long story just to make a point. Just because a hunter is using smoke or any other camo pattern or scent eliminating spray and gets busted doesn't mean "product failure"! We as hunters have to take most of the blame and not use these products like their fool proof.

Well stated. I can't ever remember being busted using smoke. Now I've been busted because the out of place big blob in the tree moved but not busted for being a big blob in a tree.

Some guys manage to cut their fingers off with a garbage disposals. The worlds full of idiots and anything not used properly will have less than desirable results. The above might sound harsh but it's reality. I find it hard to blame the product when I've seen it work for years for hundreds of hunters. Personally I've used the smoker for probably 8 years now and haven't been winded a single time. Occasionally someone would try to say the only reason that we pimp the product so hard is because our buddy Brock sells them. Brock doesn't sell them anymore ,go buy a dang smoker it'll be the best hunting tool you own.

You can also contact Brock Ratcliff via PM on this site. I think the link above might be closed.
